Read about the major contributing factors which result in infertility in females.

Do you know that there are numerous causes of female infertility? But the most common reason, which occurs in 75% of the fairer sex, is Pelvic Inflammatory Disease or PID. The incapacity to ovulate or Anovulation is one of the cases of PID. PCOS or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is another common ailment in this category. Some of the other forms of PID are Luteal Phase Defect, Gonadal Dysgenesis, Hypothalamic Amenorrhea, Endometriosis, Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, Cervical Stenosis, Uterine fibroids etc. Even Menopause, Premature Ovarian failure and aging are potent causes of female infertility.

PID or Pelvic Inflammatory Disease generally occurs on account of a wide array of infections that are caused by bacteria affecting the reproductive organs, appendix and the part of her intestine that falls within the pelvic area. When the infection spreads to the fallopian tubes, it blocks the way to the uterus, obstructing the egg to reach there. This causes sterility in a woman. Another cause for infertility in a woman is Salpingitis, a sexually transmitted infection or STI which is caused by a bacterium called Chlamydia trachomatis.

PID may also be the result of Pelvic Tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is one of the growing global health problems that are almost unchecked in the developing countries. The aftermaths of abortion done under non-sterile conditions may also cause female infertility. Such conditions occur when the reproductive organs are exposed to organisms that are likely to cause infections.
