Rolex Innovations: GMT-Master
The 1950s ushered in a new period of innovation in luxury watch making throughout the world, led by the most renowned watch company, Rolex. Already the number one brand for mens’ wristwatches decades before, in the 50s they turned to specializing their watches, targeting specific groups of professionals. These included professional divers, aviators, flight crews, cave explorers and so on. And thus was born a new line of watches that had functions above and beyond simply showing time.
The most well-known of these watches was the Submariner. Launched in 1953, it was the first timepiece guaranteed to function even 330 feet underwater. Launched in the same year was the first watch for pilots, the GMT-Master. Surpassed only by the GMT-Master II, this watch is known as the paramount watch for travelers in general, thanks to its ability to display time in two time zones simultaneously.
The design of the GMT-Master today has varied little since the 50s, but the watches manufactured today include certain improvements. One of these is the Panachrom hairspring. Typically oscillator hairsprings are made of ferromagnetic alloys, which means watches are subject to magnetic fields, shocks and so forth. Rolex resolved this problem with the invention of the blue Panachrom hairspring, which is made from a paramagnetic alloy, resulting in the GMT-Master being immune to magnetic fields and much more resistant to shocks.
For those looking for a timepiece with an impressive history and its own innovative mark on the development of wristwatches, a fake Rolex GMT-Master watch is a choice timepiece. However, there is little need to spend many thousands on a genuine Rolex when high quality, identical replicas are available for a few hundred dollars or less. A fake Rolex GMT-Master watch affords you every benefit of the authentic watch without the unreasonable price.
